Ciara's Love Triangle: Twitter's Biggest Gender War

It seems like we hear a new news story about the relationship between Ciara, her husband, Russell Wilson, and her ex-fiance, Future, at LEAST once month. Lately, it’s been more like once every week or two. Every time a news story breaks between anyone in Ciara’s love triangle, Twitter is full of hot takes from Future fans, the #FutureHive, and Ciara’s fans. Does Ciara’s “fan” group have a name? We’ll call them #TeamCleanSprite.

Typically, the #FutureHive argues the mail take on issues and #TeamCleanSprite looks at things from the female perspective. This isn’t always the case and honestly, it shouldn’t be. This week, Ciara did a semi-nude maternity photoshoot with Russ, and baby Future and Twitter gender war went crazy. Members of the #FutureHive said they couldn’t believe how disrespectful the photo was to Future and #TeamCleanSprite wasn’t going to let the hive slander Ciara in peace.

What makes the relationship between Future and Ciara (and Russ) so interesting is that they met an opposite ends of their careers. Ciara had gone pretty cold since starting her career in the early 2000s with hits like “Goodies” and “1, 2 Step”. Future had gained underground buzz through mixtapes and had some national attention, but he hadn’t truly been able to cross over yet. Future even penned Ciara’s comeback hit “Body Party” during their relationship. The #FutureHive and #TeamCleanSprite both have reason to believe that their favorite is the “winner” after their engagement was called off.

Future is a winner in this situation given that he’s released his highest charting music since the end of his relationship with Ciara. With the release of HNDRXX, he became the first artist to top the billboard charts with two different albums in two weeks. Sure, not many artists are releasing two albums one week apart, but it’s still nice to have back-to-back #1s. No matter how many hot songs/mixtapes/albums Future drops, it’s clear he still misses Ciara which is why she is the CLEAR WINNER in this situation.

Future has referred Ciara in too many songs to count and his most recent album, HNDRXX, is damn near an R&B album dedicated to Ciara. Personally, I believe that HNDRXX is one of Future’s best and most thought-out projects, so I owe Ciara a thsnk you. When Future released the self-titled FUTURE album, one of the project’s biggest songs, “Draco” features a line in the hook where Future says “you will never ever bitch back.” Is that ironic or is it just me? Then on HNDRXX, which was released one week after FUTURE, he drops lines like “After I give you this game you should never let a lame hit it/I’m the one put all the rings on you, I’m the one took all the blame for it/I had to look at this lame happy, try to figure out then why I ain’t happy”. Even these songs may be unrelated, this is still an example of how quickly emotions and situations can change.

As someone who counts on Twitter to get them through the work day (@shewillforwill), I’m thankful for all of the memes we get thanks to Future and Ciara, but at some point this shouldn’t be an argument anymore. At this point it’s clear (it’s been clear, really) that it should be obvious that Ciara is on to better things in her life and Future is living in the past in a major way. Even though Future’s career has taken off since their engagement ended, and Ciara hasn’t had a huge hit since “Body Party” with Future, Ciara has what’s most important. She found a husband, who also happens to be a super-bowl winning Quarterback, and is about to welcome a new child into the world. Whether you’re a member of the #FutureHive or not, you have to admit that Ciara’s glow up has been epic and accept the fact that she deserves to enjoy her life. When it all comes down to it, Ciara is a married woman who did a maternity shoot with her son and husband, which is something she has every right to do.

Remember on “Jumpman” when Future said “I know Ima get my bitch back, whoa”? Looks like that won’t be happening anytime soon.
