~A Woman Cant Raise A Man~

*Yells*

“Momma! Guess what?!”

…Growing up black is an experience in itself, especially for a black man

Born into a world full of doubt and hate against you from birth, hearing people tell you that you aren’t enough and you never will be. The things you go through but never run home to tell momma because you don’t want to make her worry.

Grandaddy dies, The Only Man You've Ever Had....

No emotion is shown

Your world is over

Watching football together on that Sunday afternoon soon becomes a thing of the past.

You are stuck…

watching the games…

on your own…

Becoming a man on your own because “Daddy” is just imaginary so you count on your experiences to get you by.

Dependent on women who nurture you from birth to teach you how to become a man…

You experience your own heartbreaks

Make your own mistakes

You fail

You get back up

and try again…

And you run to momma because thats all you know…

What you learn is more than the verbal lectures, you sit and you watch the arguments, see the tears and the hurt, you witness the struggle and there forms a struggle within you..

Let it get the best of you or become a man… Be strong because momma will need you one day.

Momma & Aunties are sick and theres nothing you can do about it

Grandma is depressed and theres nothing you can do about it..

Then…

Little sister is born and there you have a child watching your every move.

Following you around the house asking you to play the game

Wearing your clothes

Watching everything that I do, and duplicating it to the T.

5 Baby cousins all watching and looking up to you

So you have no other choice...

Its now up to you to tune out the hate, tune out the world as the world isn’t teaching you anything but to be a mental slave.

Stereotypes… those things momma told you about… Ignore them…

Being expected to fail

"No one thinks you are intelligent"

“These people out here dont care nothing about you”

Momma always said “They can take everything from you but the one thing you will always have is your knowledge”

So you take it upon yourself, don’t be like the next man..

Always be better

Yes it is hard.. very hard

But always be better…

The one true desire to make momma happy, to make aunties proud, to see grandma smile and be able to hold your head to the sky and say “Granda we made it”

So you rebuild yourself slowly, regaining the confidence you once had, finding old passions and desires…

Educating yourself rather than falling victim to the system

You watch some of your peers pass, go to jail, or just let life get the best of them.. But you keep going..

Taking each loss as a lesson…

*Mom answers*

"Yes Son !?"

*Takes mom laptop*

“I Got into College”

Now your world is completely different

Your desire to be great grows everyday

You have Dreams and Aspirations and you are working to be able to provide for your family one day.

All the women are rooting for you

And guess what?

Little sister is still watching

You are now a role model...

She now wants to go to college

Making good grades in school

Big brother is proud…

But you wont stop there, the job is not done…

Show the women all the love that you have as they has showed you all your life.

Prove to them that you are able to live this life

With all the lessons they’ve taught you over the years and that unconditional love

That you will be a strong and successful man.
