Lil' Bruh

During Black History Month, we always take the time to honor those who came before us. The brave African-American men and women who paved the way for us to be here doing what we do. Without them, we have no future.
However, times are changing and the future is NOW, meaning us...and the generation behind us.
Growing up, I fortunate enough have positive male role models in my life: my pops, my grandfather, and uncles. But there's nothing like having a "big bruh" or a "big homie" around. Everybody's got one, and I'm pretty sure women do the same thing with younger girls.
But to me, a "big homie" was someone who's a few years older than you that can show you the ropes on how to survive out here in this world, and punch you in your chest if you went off the straight n' narrow. He might've lived down the block from you, went to the same school as you. he coulda been the star football player, or the neighborhood dopeboy. Point is...they all looked out for you, gave you advice, and came through when you needed them. To this day, I keep in touch with them, and that means the world to me.
So now that I'm older, I still keep in touch with my big brothers and I still remember the jewels they dropped. So it's only right I pass them on to the next generation...and they can pass them on to the next one. Take time out to mentor a kid, y'all. They're watching us closer than you think.
So without further ado, here's my original piece "Lil Bruh". Hope y'all enjoy.
Till next time,
Ghost
Come here, lil bruh, let me talk to you
As I watch you get older, I pass what’s in my heart to you
You’re a mirror; I see my reflection in your eyes
Give you knowledge so you can make some perfection in your strides.
This is a message in disguise; can you catch it in these lines?
If you do, you’ll receive a beautiful blessing that’s divine
You gotta live with no regrets, take a change if it’s there
,
But make your moves wisely, or you’ll land in despair.
Gotta go out get your own, although the path isn’t clear
When you hit the door, see dough, but don’t dance with them squares
I was once like you, I had to climb and scratch to get my way out
Never once did I quit, I never took the safe route
Had to make my own mark, reinvent the wheel
Along the way, I met doubters with the intent to kill…
My dreams
But through the bullshit, keep your mind on the Most High
You'll come back like Jordan wearing the 45
Pay attention, lil' bruh, I tell you this so you’ll know why
You’re my heir, and I put you under my wing…now we’ll both fly.
